Training public health leaders

Northeastern’s Master of Public Health/1-Year Accelerated degree prepares professionals to protect the health of communities through an accelerated curriculum with integrated industry partnerships. You’ll gain the technical knowledge and expertise necessary to tackle complex health challenges at Northeastern’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences-one of the nation’s leading health sciences colleges.

The experience-based program is delivered 100% online. Students engage in an intensive 12-month course load, working individually and with other students and groups in the program’s cohort structure.

Graduates leave the program ready to work in positions improving public health at the local, regional, national and global levels.

The MPH in Public Health program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health.

Graduates from the Master’s in Public Health/1-Year Accelerated program gain the technical expertise to address specific health issues and the cultural competency needed to interact effectively with and be an advocate for diverse populations. Completing your public health training at Northeastern University means learning from and working with public health professionals striving to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities worldwide.

Graduates with an MPH degree are employed in varied professional settings, including federal, state, and local health agencies; universities and colleges; hospitals; ambulatory medical centers; nonprofit organizations; community-based agencies; insurance and pharmaceutical industries; health maintenance organizations; and private foundations.

Master of Public Health/1-Year Accelerated students will participate in an intensive practicum that gives them the opportunity to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills and knowledge learned in class to professional experience in a public health work environment.

Your practicum experiences include a three-credit course and an assignment in a community environment such as a hospital, community health center, government agency, community organization, research institution, advocacy and policy organization, and private institution. During the practicum, you will have an opportunity to become engaged in the everyday workings of the organization.

  • Personal statement that describes your interest in and commitment to urban public health

  • Resumé/CV

  • TOEFL or IELTS for applicants who do not hold a degree from a U.S. institution and whose native language is not English

  • Target GPA of 3.5, minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Interview: The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request an in-person or telephone interview with certain candidates
