Become a leader in AI

The MPS in Applied AI Connect program is designed to help you break into the tech industry, no matter your undergraduate degree. With just nine additional credits of study, you can gain the skills you need for a successful career in AI.

You’ll begin the program with skill-building courses that will build your foundation in essential competencies, then focus on creating and implementing AI and machine learning technologies in the traditional program, which emphasizes collaborative learning, interdisciplinary innovation, real-world applications, and ethics.

This approach and the ability to specialize your learning through concentrations and electives equip you with the computer science, analytical, and problem-solving skills to transform your workplace through AI.

Conversational AI and Chatbots: Understand how linguistics, tech, and design impact conversational AI and enhance user experiences and business operations. Expertise here opens diverse career avenues, from global enterprises to local businesses.

Machine Learning for Cybersecurity: Machine learning (ML) enhances cybersecurity by detecting threats, automating responses, scaling operations, spotting sophisticated threats in vast datasets, and predicting future risks. As cyber threats evolve, ML’s role in defense and job relevance grows, offering novel research opportunities and applications.

AI for 3D Imaging: Understand how AI can offer improved accuracy, faster workflows, data augmentation, real-time analysis, image segmentation, noise reduction, and cost efficiency in a variety of industries, from healthcare to game design.

For the 2025–2026 academic year, MPS Applied AI and MPS Applied AI Connect are being offered as a collaboration between the College of Professional Studies (CPS) and the Office of the Provost. During this period, students will follow Northeastern University’s Graduate (GR) Academic Calendar and be governed by the academic policies and procedures documented in the university’s Graduate Catalog. CPS will continue to provide each student with full academic and student support services (e.g., academic advising services, co-op and career advising services, International Tutoring Center, etc.).

Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, students enrolled in MPS Applied AI and MPS Applied AI Connect will transition to the College of Professional Studies, and their official college designation will be updated accordingly in the academic system of record. At that time, students will be governed by CPS’ academic policies and procedures within the university’s Graduate Catalog.

Our admissions process operates on a rolling basis; however, we do recommend the application guidelines below to ensure you can begin during your desired start term:

  • Professional resumé

  • Unofficial undergraduate transcripts; official transcripts required at the time of admission

    • The Foreign Credential Evaluation (FCE) is a required assessment of all transcripts and documents from non-U.S. accredited post-secondary education institutions. (Review the FCE requirements by country.)

  • English language proficiency proof. Students for whom English is not their primary language must submit one of the following:

    • Official associate or bachelor's degree transcript from an accredited college or university in the U.S., stating degree conferral and date

    • TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Duolingo, or NU Global Exam scores

  • Other materials may be required

In this program, you’ll build a comprehensive foundation in machine learning and AI concepts, methodologies, and applications and be prepared for careers as a developer, engineer, or data scientist.

Analytical competencies

Evaluate and employ advanced data analysis methods, data management technologies, and modern AI analytical techniques to determine the most effective ones for public and private sector challenges.

Human-focused solutions

Integrate the theory and practices of human-computer interaction and usability to analyze and design solutions to key management and ethical issues throughout the complete data lifecycle.

Real-world applications

Apply strategic and effective analysis, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills to implement ML and AI solutions in real-world situations.

Communication skills

Communicate complex quantitative information to different audiences using exploratory data visualization, dashboard design, scorecard design, and spatial data representation.

Some courses and labs have tuition rates that may increase or decrease total tuition. Tuition and fees are subject to revision by the president and Board of Trustees at any time. Select programs at select campuses offer additional scholarships of up to 25% off the listed price for domestic students studying on campus. For students interested in pursuing financial assistance or educational loans, additional educational costs, known as Cost of Attendance (COA) components, can be included in the calculation of aid and loan eligibility. Components may include food, housing, books, course materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, personal expenses, and the cost of obtaining a first professional licensure. Please keep in mind that COA can vary significantly depending on academic program, enrollment intensity, and individual circumstances.
