The digital humanities frontier

Northeastern’s Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities offers a structured pathway to delve into the evolving world of digital research. This interdisciplinary program explores how new digital technologies redefine texts, archives, and research methods in humanities fields.

Designed for flexibility, the certificate can be pursued independently or alongside a master’s or doctoral degree. You’ll engage closely with NULab faculty, examining digitized texts and using innovative quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. By completing a hands-on final project, you’ll be equipped to apply your skills in various career opportunities within and beyond academia.

  • Gain expertise in cutting-edge methods for encoding, analyzing, and connecting texts.
  • Complete the certificate in 12 semester hours with electives like Digital Space and Place, Complex Digitized Data Analysis, and Computational Statistics.
  • Complete a final cumulative project that uses digital methods to address a significant research question in your field of study, involving both a practical component and a written reflection. You may choose between many different forms, including but not limited to: a data set or digital collection, a prototype or wireframe, a game or interactive narrative, or a set of data analyses and/or visualizations.
  • Collaborate with NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks, Northeastern’s hub for digital humanities and computational social science.

Equipped with specialized knowledge in digital research methods, you’ll be prepared for roles in academia, libraries, archives, cultural institutions, and beyond. This certificate showcases your ability to use digital tools to drive research and impact your field.
