Nancy P. Hanrahan, PhD, RN, FAAN
Professor, School of Nursing & Associate Dean, Bouve College of Health Sciences
Dr. Nancy Hanrahan assumed the position of Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences effective July 2015. She is a national leader in psychiatric mental health nursing and known for her work documenting the psychiatric nurse workforce and her expertise in system-level mental health services research. Additionally, she is an experienced administrator and consultant for behavioral health care systems with an expertise in the local and national regulation and reimbursement of the behavioral health trained advanced practitioner. Dr. Hanrahan led the innovation and technology development program at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing. She developed a health technology incubator resulting in multiple mobile apps and other innovative technology that received national and international awards. Dr. Hanrahan has held numerous leadership positions in academic, clinical and policy organizations and her successful career and experience in innovation reflects her entrepreneurial spirit.
Dr. Hanrahan received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and her masters and doctoral degrees from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing.
Dr. Hanrahan transitions from her position as a faculty member in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and her position as a Senior Fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. She is involved with state and national policy initiatives such as parity, quality indicators, and creating a web-based advanced practice psychiatric nurse employment guide. Her mastery of technology as an interventional strategy for improving the health of underserved communities is in alignment with our population health emphasis and future goals for global population health. She has an appointment to the measures application committee of the National Quality Forum, working to establish priorities that improve the delivery of behavioral health services.
