Students choose one of two paths:

General information systems concentration: Pursue flexible electives within a focus area that aligns with your career goals. Available focus areas include AI systems engineering, business intelligence and data analytics, full-stack software engineering, machine learning and data sciences engineering, project and product management, and user experience design.

Medical software engineering concentration: Learn to engineer connected healthcare systems that improve clinical care and patient safety. By combining information systems, software engineering, and systems engineering, you’ll gain the expertise to design innovative technologies that shape the future of healthcare.

The Master of Science in Information Systems degree program consists of 32 semester hours and can be completed through a coursework-only curriculum or one that includes either a master’s project or a thesis. (Students studying at select campus locations may be required to complete a master’s project or thesis as part of their degree.)

You may also elect to incorporate a cooperative education experience, gaining professional work experience as part of the curriculum. Full-time and part-time enrollment options are available, and courses can be taken fully on campus, fully online, or in a combination of both, allowing you to pursue the degree at the pace and format that fit your goals.

No STEM background? No problem. This degree also offers an option for career-changers without a related degree.

Our Cooperative Education Program, also known as “co-op,” is one of the largest and most innovative in the world. Dedicated co-op coordinators will guide you through the entire process.

As an R1 research university, Northeastern offers all students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of interdisciplinary research projects in addition to resources and support to foster innovation. You’ll be able to perform research with faculty in their labs, as part of research centers, on co-op, or on your own as part of an individual research project. You can also present your research at university events and participate in regional, national, and global competitions.

Applications received after the stated deadline dates will be accepted and processed as quickly as possible; however it may not be possible to have a decision rendered in time for the applicant to begin taking classes for the desired term if admitted.
