Overview

The primary goal of the MS Family Nurse Practitioner online program is to educate family nurse practitioners who are capable of providing evidence-based, culturally and linguistically competent, ethical primary healthcare to individuals and families in a variety of health care settings. Graduates will become nurse clinicians, educators, scholars, researchers, and lifelong learners. 

The program is offered in a hybrid format with all the classes delivered online. Students are required to attend 2 hands-on Clinical Intensive weekends held on campus in Boston. One is scheduled in the first year of classes and the second one is in your last semester of your specialty track. Upon completion of the primary care program, graduates are eligible to sit for all national certification exams in their area of practice.

Program Objectives

The Family Nurse Practitioner online program will prepare family nurse practitioners who will:

  • Provide evidenced-based healthcare to individuals, families, and communities across diverse cultural and practice settings.
  • Effectively utilize information technologies in the provision of care to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Actively collaborate and communicate with fellow clinicians and institutions to ensure coordination of care to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Provide leadership across diverse cultural and practice settings in the provision of primary healthcare to individuals, families, and communities.

Career Outlook

Work to provide patient care across all life stages as you collaborate with other healthcare professionals. FNPs conduct health assessments and perform diagnostic evaluations while providing preventive care and disease management and treating chronic and acute illnesses. Most can prescribe medications. Employer’s often include physician’s offices, hospitals, and community health centers.

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited USA program
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0, with grades of ‘B’ or better, is required in all undergraduate clinical courses
  • Successful completion of a statistics course that includes probability theory and hypothesis testing
  • Current RN licensure
  • At least 1 year of active full-time nursing experience with direct patient care
  • TOEFL or IELTS for applicants who do not hold a degree from a U.S. institution and whose native language is not English
  • Additional fees may apply for travel, memberships, and clinical

Experiential Learning

There are 2 Clinical Intensive weekends in the curriculum. One is scheduled in the first year of classes and the second one is in your last semester of your specialty track. You are required to come to campus for these Clinical Intensives and will have the opportunity to meet your faculty, participate in High Fidelity Simulation and refine your Advanced Practice Skills with professional patients and individual instruction.
