Program overview

Prepare to lead and thrive

Northeastern University in Miami’s Master of Science in Project Management prepares you to drive innovation in your organization by giving you the skills and tools to effectively lead volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous projects from inception to completion in global markets.

Accredited by the Project Management Institute’s Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC), our curriculum has a two-pronged approach that provides the foundational knowledge of scientific-based project management tools, organizational strategies, and theoretical concepts, coupled with the opportunity to deepen subject matter expertise through targeted concentration work and innovative project management concepts.

Please note: Beginning fall 2026, this program will shift from a quarter-based academic calendar to a semester format. View the program conversion guide for curriculum details or visit our FAQ page for more information.

If you enter this program before fall 2026, your academic advisor will work with you to ensure a smooth transition. This change will not impact your academic progress, path to graduation, or tuition costs.

The Master of Science in Project Management is accredited by the PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC). The GAC Accredited Program seal is a mark of Project Management Institute, Inc. In October of 2021, the Master of Science in Project Management accreditation was reaffirmed for the maximum five-year accreditation cycle (originally accredited in 2009) by the PMI GAC, the world’s leading association for project management professionals. Accreditation is achieved by meeting the GAC’s rigorous standards, which include an assessment of program objectives and outcomes, a review of onsite and online resources, evaluations of faculty and students, and proof of continuous improvements in the area of project management. Graduates of our GAC-accredited program are granted a substantial 12-month reduction credit toward the experience requirement when they complete an application for any PMI certification. This means that those applying for the PMI certification will only need 24 months of project management experience, instead of 36 months as outlined by GAC.

  • Our program is designed to include practical experimentation throughout. Early courses rely on individual experiences simulated with software, evolving to group experiential network projects sponsored by local businesses before culminating in a complex, individually managed real-world project in the capstone course.
  • Students’ past professional experience in project management may be eligible for degree credit toward the program.
  • Our curriculum is organized into a sequence of logical, bite-sized morsels, which makes it easier to be a student. We offer six-week courses in fundamentals, scope, schedule and budget, quality assurance, and risk management, so that in just 18 weeks, students will have practical learning under their belt to put into practice.
  • Our curriculum supports a deeper dive into topics of relevance through concentration courses, including analytics, agile project management, construction management, leadership, organizational communication, project business analysis, and leading and managing technical projects.
  • This program was designed using a network approach where each of the six campuses has a principal instructor who owns ongoing monitoring for content updates and quality delivery across our adjunct faculty. This means that our students are not only exposed to content in a more streamlined and organized manner, but they also benefit from the ongoing perspective of a large, global faculty community, who are actively monitoring one another to assure quality across each classroom.

Students beginning their studies for the inaugural fall 2024 cohort are eligible for a scholarship of 25% or up to $10,000 towards their total tuition for the duration of the program.
