Northeastern University's Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) will prepare you to significantly influence society—from enabling children with autism to communicate effectively to relieving adolescents’ fears of speaking dysfluently in the classroom to helping stroke survivors resume their previous activities.

Since 1965, Northeastern's Bouvé College of Health Sciences has offered a leading speech-language pathology graduate program that reflects the university’s tradition of practice-oriented education. Adhering to the highest professional standards, you'll be prepared for the rigors of clinical practice in educational and healthcare settings.

The speech-language pathology degree program offers a comprehensive curriculum emphasizing teamwork and interdisciplinary approaches to complex service delivery issues. Students who begin their coursework in the MS-SLP program through the Charlotte campus in the Fall 2024 semester are eligible to receive a $40,000 scholarship, which brings the tuition for the two-year program to an average of $33,850 for each academic year.

  • Northeastern has an on-campus community speech-language clinic.
  • Students complete four semesters of clinical experience both on and off campus.
  • Following graduation, students are eligible for North Carolina state educator licensure requirements for speech-language pathology, including the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requirements for practicing in public schools. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has not made a determination that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements to practice in any other state.   • A TOEFL iBT score of 115 or higher for applicants who do not hold a degree from a U.S. institution and whose native language is not English. An IELTS score of 8.5 or higher can be used in place of TOEFL iBT scores
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0

Experiential Learning

Students engage in four semesters of clinical experiences, both on and off-campus. In your first semester of Clinic (Clinic 1), you'll engage in meaningful clinical experiences under the guidance of highly skilled supervisors in the on-campus speech-language clinic. Individuals of all ages from surrounding communities come to the speech-language clinic for diagnostic and therapeutic services.

In Clinics 2 through 4, you'll typically work multiple days a week off-campus with speech-language pathologists as a student clinician in community-based hospitals, outpatient clinics, educational institutions, and other settings.

Consistent with ASHA guidelines, both on-campus and off-campus clinical assignments provide you with hands-on experience evaluating and/or treating children and adults with various diagnoses, disorders, and impairments, such as language, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders. While many of our external clinical sites are accessible by public transportation, not all are. Consequently, you must have access to a car during the semesters you are enrolled in Clinics 2 through 4.
