Program overview

Help shape AI in learning

There is substantial demand for educators and learning professionals skilled in using AI to enhance learning opportunities. Northeastern’s Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence in Learning bridges the gap between learning theory and AI use in educational contexts.

This certificate is designed to equip educators, instructional designers, learning experience designers, corporate trainers, educational technologists, and entrepreneurs with the theoretical foundations of learning and instructional theories needed to truly harness the power of AI.

You’ll apply learning principles using generative AI to create unique learning opportunities that can be applied across K–12, higher education, corporate training and development, educational technology, and entrepreneurial ventures.

  • This is the first graduate certificate in New England to merge foundational learning theories with generative AI applications.
  • You’ll be able to design, implement, and evaluate AI-driven learning solutions that are effective, theoretically sound, and grounded in best practices from learning research.
  • The program’s approach focuses on learning theories, memory, the development of expertise, and instructional theory with hands-on application of generative AI.
  • The program fills a critical gap in graduate-level education by combining learning theory and instructional design with AI applications—a specialized approach not currently available elsewhere.
  • You’ll be sought after in learning and development, corporate training, HR, K–12 education, higher education, and educational technology companies, with 11% projected job growth.
  • Thousands of job postings exist for educators and learning professionals skilled in AI, and the educational technology sector is experiencing more than 10% annual growth in areas such as online learning platforms, learning management systems, and adaptive learning software.
  • You’ll gain a deep understanding of leveraging AI in line with learning theories, positioning you as a leader in educational technology and across learning contexts.
