Program overview

Shape digital service platforms

Northeastern’s Graduate Certificate in Digital Platforms for Service Innovation provides core knowledge and skills tied to the growing role of digital technologies in service delivery. Platforms such as Uber and AirBnB are online tools for smoothly connecting customers with service providers, and for enhancing operations by simplifying communications, transactions, and delivery. Their effectiveness advances with the latest in artificial intelligence and technical innovations.

The certificate can be earned simultaneously with a master’s degree at Northeastern, and coursework may apply to both programs’ requirements.

  • Engage in interdisciplinary coursework that includes engineering, computer sciences, social sciences, and business topics.
  • Choose from differentiated tracks for students with engineering and computer sciences backgrounds, and for those with a foundation in social sciences and business.
  • Gain a holistic view of the field in a curriculum that draws from courses and experts from across the university.
  • Stack your certificate with select master’s degrees within Northeastern’s College of Engineering, Khoury College of Computer Sciences, D’Amore-McKim School of Business, and College of Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • Gain new opportunities in a program created in partnership with the NSF-funded Platforms for Exchange and Allocation of Resources (PEAR) Research Traineeship program.

The increasing digitization of the economy and resulting growth of digital platforms have dramatically altered how individuals, organizations, and governments exchange and allocate resources. According to McKinsey Research, by 2029, digital platforms will mediate over 30%, or $60 trillion, to global economic activity. Additionally, global spending on AI software will surge from $124 billion in 2022 to $297 billion in 2027, according to Gartner. These platforms have disrupted multiple industries, upended labor economics and practices, and fundamentally transformed resource management, asset allocation, and market design.
