Offered jointly by the D’Amore-McKim School of Business and the School of Law, the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Compliance supplies professionals, law students, and MBA students with key compliance skills.

This 15-credit, one-year program covers the laws, regulations, and business strategies that shape healthcare. Through online learning and on-campus sessions, you’ll delve into healthcare structures, compliance practices, ethical obligations, and policy writing.

Designed for working professionals, the flexible format includes two weekend residencies in Boston to connect with faculty and peers. Advance your career and become a vital asset in healthcare compliance.

Hybrid learning

Northeastern’s Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Compliance is offered in a hybrid format. With courses primarily offered online, this program provides a flexible format that is suitable for the needs of a working professional. Students can interact with both classmates and instructors through online discussion boards, and learn from simulated healthcare compliance problems knowledge and skills that can be applied to real-world scenarios.

Students will also have the opportunity to engage with peers, faculty, and healthcare compliance professionals at the Boston campus over the course of two weekends for insightful discussions on the field of healthcare compliance and how program content relates to work activities. This classroom component will conveniently take place early in the first program term and then again in a later term of the program.

Taught by professors with expertise in healthcare law and compliance, the core curriculum allows students to understand and apply healthcare compliance concepts to real-world scenarios.

This program will help to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as healthcare compliance professionals.

Healthcare legislation and regulations are constantly evolving, which has created a need for many to gain foundational business knowledge of the industry, coupled with a keen understanding of the legal complications within the field.

As a result, employers are calling for an increasing number of individuals with a strong business foundation within the healthcare space, with the added legal knowledge needed to gain insight into the nature of compliance challenges.

The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Compliance helps to provide graduates with the skills and experience to:

  • Summarize and apply health compliance management practices, including practices related to enforcement of compliance standards in the workplace
  • Examine the structure of the American healthcare system, including insurance and payment systems, and the complicated regulations that govern healthcare delivery and financing
  • Gain insight into the ethical and legal obligations related to patient records
  • Learn how to write compliance policies and procedures relevant to today’s healthcare compliance problems
  • Learn how to apply personal and business ethics in healthcare compliance

    • The Foreign Credential Evaluation (FCE) is a required assessment of all transcripts and documents from non-U.S. accredited post-secondary education institutions. (Review the FCE requirements by country.)

  • A personal statement (500-1000 words) identifying your educational goals and expectations from the program; please be aware that the university's academic policy on plagiarism applies to applicant's personal statement

  • One letter of recommendation: from individual(s) with either academic or professional knowledge of your capabilities, such as a faculty member, current employer, mentor, or colleague. Recommenders should submit the Graduate Studies Recommender Form and upload a written evaluation to the application.

  • Official TOEFL scores (nonnative English speakers only) GRE or LSAT scores (optional)

Current Northeastern MBA and JD students

  • Students who are currently earning their MBA with D’Amore-McKim School of Business and are in good academic standing, may also enroll themselves in the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Compliance by simply completing this one-page form and emailing it to [email protected]. No additional application, test scores, transcripts, or approvals are required.

  • Students who are currently earning their JD with Northeastern University’s School of Law may also be eligible to enroll in this graduate certificate program by working with their program advisor.
