Program overview

Learn to master complex challenges

Environmental sustainability challenges are inherently complex and multidisciplinary and will require a workforce capable of collaborating across interdisciplinary teams. Thus, it is critical that the next generation of sustainability scientists and engineers receive broad, interdisciplinary training so that they are better prepared to address these complex challenges. This certificate provides social science, engineering, and health science students with fundamental training in sustainability science.

  • Conversations with our experiential partners over the past five to 10 years have highlighted the need for interdisciplinary training in the sustainability sciences and engineering. This certificate will provide social science, engineering, and health science students with fundamental training in sustainability science.
  • There are no similar certificate programs. The curriculum leverages Northeastern’s academic leadership in environmental and sustainability science.
  • This certificate will foster the development of an interdisciplinary workforce capable of addressing environmental sustainability challenges. This effort is collaborative across other Northeastern colleges: Colleges of Engineering (Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Engineering), Social Sciences and Humanities (Graduate Certificate in Social Sciences), and Health Sciences (Graduate Certificate in Environmental Health).
