Program overview

Make an impact in healthcare

The Graduate Certificate in Vaccine Development provides skills and expertise to students who wish to pursue a career in this urgent field. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic resurfaced the importance of effective and accessible vaccines to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and there is a growing need for professionals with the training this program offers.

The program, which can be completed in two semesters, explores what vaccines are, how immunization works, how regulatory science has evolved in vaccine approvals, and other aspects of vaccine creation and deployment. The curriculum has been designed by leaders and scientists working in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Credits are transferable to the MS in Biotechnology program.

  • This stackable certificate consists of five courses totaling 15 semester-hour credits.
  • The certificate may serve as a gateway to the MS in Biotechnology program. Individuals who successfully complete a certificate can apply to the MS in Biotechnology program and, if accepted, apply credits toward the degree program.
  • All courses can be performed on-site in Boston.
  • Industry-aligned faculty have real-world experience.
  • The curriculum leverages the lessons learned in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to provide students with insights and the skills necessary to pursue careers in vaccine development.
  • Graduates of the program will be poised to contribute to the burgeoning scientific field of disease treatment and prevention.

A career in vaccine development offers an excellent professional opportunity in a growing healthcare field. Average salaries, according to BLS.gov, are $85K depending on the position and role in the field. The demand for those qualified to enter the workforce is expected to grow quickly over the coming years. Careers in the sciences often require an advanced degree, and this certificate program provides stackable credentials to put toward a master’s degree in the future.
