Doctor of Nursing Practice - Nurse Anesthesia

The Baccalaureate, Master of Science, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs at Northeastern University School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791The Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Anesthesia Program has received full approval from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Program and the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA).

Application Deadline: August 1

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from a program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE

• Official transcript(s) of ALL college-level study

• Up-to-date resumé

• Undergraduate grade-point average of 3.2 or higher

• Science grade-point average of 3.2 or higher

  • Graduate-level courses in anatomy and physiology, chemistry, or physics may be taken to strengthen a science GPA; no labs or prior approval are required

• Graduate statistics course (with grade of B or higher) completed prior to matriculation into the program

  • A prior course must be completed within two years of applying

  • Content should include:

    • Descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency and variability)

    • Use of computer software for statistical functions (Microsoft Excel, Stata, etc.)

    • Role of normal distributions

    • Hypothesis testing

    • Inferential statistical methods

    • Data analysis (simple)

• Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores

  • GRE scores are waived for applicants with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher

  • Minimum GRE scores:

    • Verbal: 153

    • Quantitative: 153

    • Analytical Writing: 4.0

    • Scores must be submitted via Northeastern’s NursingCAS code: 2734

  • GRE scores are accepted if completed within five years of applying

• Three letters of recommendation

  • Recommenders should be able to speak to the applicant’s clinical abilities and professional qualifications

  • At least one letter must be from a nursing supervisor—a current supervisor is preferred

• Personal goal statement

  • Maximum two pages, addressing (1) reason for pursuing a career as a CRNA, (2) insights gained from CRNA shadowing, (3) rationale for selecting the Northeastern DNP NA program, and (4) understanding of a scholarly project

  • This is an opportunity to highlight your experiences, passion, and vision as a future CRNA, and to demonstrate how you feel you will contribute to the program and the profession

  • This personal statement must be written entirely by you in your own words and voice; while you may use AI tools for grammar checking and editing, the content, ideas, and narrative must be authentically yours

• Current unrestricted license to practice nursing in the United States

• One year of current critical care nursing experience (two-plus years preferred)

  • Neonatal ICU experience accepted if Level III/IV

• CRNA shadowing

  • Minimum of 20 hours; include documentation of shadowing (example form)

  • Completed shadow forms should be uploaded in NursingCAS in the Applicant Uploaded Documents section

• CCRN certification including score report

• Virtual interview with faculty: Interviews will be held August 10–14, 2026, by invitation only

The program reviews applications on a holistic basis, taking all submitted materials into consideration and in context to the overall application and application materials. Applicant interviews and the admissions decisions are made at the discretion of the Nurse Anesthesia Program Admissions Committee.
