Program overview

Learn to lead in education

From early childhood through adult and workplace learning, education is transforming, requiring next-level administrative leadership in order to succeed. This program prepares you to lead across organizational contexts, including higher education, K–12, and corporate learning environments.

You’ll gain advanced skills in human capital development, crisis management, fiscal oversight, enrollment strategies, compliance, and technological integration. You’ll learn to fulfill the promise of organizations to prepare learners for immediate needs and future challenges.

The interdisciplinary online curriculum spans human development, organizational behavior, psychology, management, leadership, research, social foundations, and policy frameworks—readying you to manage the challenges of today’s educational landscape.

Higher education administration: Focus your studies on becoming a well-rounded leader with the theoretical and practical skills needed to succeed in higher education. Gain a deep understanding of the structure, governance, and operation of higher education organizations.

  • Gain a pathway to build work experience while you earn your degree—on your schedule, virtually, at any stage in your learning cycle—through Northeastern’s Experiential Network (XN).
  • Develop the skills to become marketable and competitive in education administration, including critical thinking, cultural competence, knowledge of laws and regulations, data-driven decision-making, strategic thinking, and other practical skills such as budgeting and supervision.
  • Complete your degree 100% online in 12–24 months.

Through a required capstone course and project, you’ll work to address a challenge within education. You’ll conduct in-depth research on your topic of interest and present your findings to a group of mid- and senior-level practitioners who provide feedback and insight.

You will write a reflection piece at the end of the course and are encouraged to map out a lifelong learning plan. You have the option to perform a mock interview with a practitioner in the field you want to go into, gaining career guidance and possible job referrals.

  • Students participate in the Graduate School of Education summer convening to connect and be inspired by fellow students and faculty.
  • Students and alumni of the program are invited to participate in the Graduate School of Education residency poster session, a networking opportunity where attendees exchange ideas on innovation and change work in the field.
  • Becoming part of the Northeastern Graduate School of Education connects you to a network of leaders in education through renowned faculty and distinguished alumni.
