Training public health leaders
The Master of Public Health program at Northeastern’s Charlotte campus equips graduates with the technical expertise necessary to tackle complex urban, rural, and local health problems.
Interdisciplinary faculty pair technical know-how with the cultural sensitivity required to communicate effectively with, and advocate for, diverse populations, both within the United States and abroad. Students examine how the built environment can affect populations’ wellbeing through the lens of the social determinants of health.
Graduates leave the program prepared to effectively address the inequities and multi-level public health risks that impact diverse populations.
Charlotte’s MPH program is offered as online, asynchronous coursework, with a single one-week, in-person course intensive residency.

The MPH in Public Health program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health.
- Fall and spring entry dates
- All core courses meet in the evenings once a week to accommodate working professionals
- Elective courses may be taken on a wide range of public health topics, including cross-departmental offerings from Northeastern’s other colleges (law, business, social sciences, and more)
- Community-oriented, 200-hour practicum takes place in a professional public health setting
- The capstone project allows students to integrate theory and practice experiences in a major research, program planning, policy development, management, service delivery, or evaluation project
- Graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified in Public Health (CPH) Exam, the only professional certification specific to the field of public health
A graduate from the Master of Public Health program has both the technical expertise to address specific urban health issues as well as the strategic and cultural competency needed to interact effectively with and be an advocate for diverse urban populations. Completing your public health training at Northeastern University affords the opportunity to learn from and work with public health professionals striving to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities across Northeastern’s Global Campus Network.
Graduates with an MPH degree are employed in a number of varied professional settings including: federal, state, and local health agencies; universities and colleges; hospitals; ambulatory medical centers; nonprofit organizations; community-based agencies; insurance and pharmaceutical industries; health maintenance organizations; and private foundations.

Program objectives
Prepare for success
The program trains racially and ethnically diverse individuals with the skills to improve public health at diverse initiatives across local, regional, national, and global levels.
Apply research and evaluation skills to projects in health policy, health technology and informatics, mental health, social justice, urban health, environmental health, and public health leadership and advocacy.
Students engage in a required 200-hour internship with a public health organization to apply the skills and knowledge they’ve learned in the classroom.

Some courses and labs have tuition rates that may increase or decrease total tuition. Tuition and fees are subject to revision by the president and Board of Trustees at any time. For students interested in pursuing financial assistance or educational loans, additional educational costs, known as Cost of Attendance (COA) components, can be included in the calculation of aid and loan eligibility. Components may include food, housing, books, course materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, personal expenses, and the cost of obtaining a first professional licensure. Please keep in mind that COA can vary significantly depending on academic program, enrollment intensity, and individual circumstances.

Visit tuition & financial aidDue to the generosity of our donors and public health supporters, students who begin their MPH program coursework at the Charlotte campus in the 2025-2026 academic year are eligible to receive a $12,873 Center for Health Sciences Scholarship, reducing program tuition to $38,619. There are a variety of additional resources, including scholarships, through the Student Financial Services office.
