Advanced nursing skills

The Master of Science in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nursing program provides advanced study with a major focus on clinical experience and a broad background of basic physiology, advanced pathophysiology, and advanced health assessment. Diagnostic reasoning skills are taught and developed as students learn the advanced nursing management and technology skills needed to care for acute, chronic, and critically ill individuals and their families.

This program is appropriate for licensed nurses who do not possess master’s degree in nursing. Students complete 600 hours of precepted clinical experience. The program culminates with a Master of Science in Nursing.

The master’s degree program in nursing and the post-graduate APRN certificate program at Northeastern University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791.

Clinical practice of the advanced nurse is the major focus of this program. All students complete a minimum of 600 hours of precepted clinical learning.

The School of Nursing has over 40 years of experience providing cooperative education for nursing students. Students consult with their faculty advisors to choose the appropriate clinical settings for their practicum experiences.

Opportunities are available in locations throughout New England. The School of Nursing maintains affiliations with over 100 institutions in Greater Boston, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Tufts-New England Medical Center.

Advanced clinical practice

Intensive supervision of clinical work by faculty and expert preceptors provides the necessary experience for practice, as well as an appreciation of the critical analysis as a method of learning.

Real-world experience

Students develop the expertise necessary for patient management and advanced nursing practice skills across the wellness-illness continuum.
