Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) are in demand in settings like physician offices, hospitals, and community health centers. FNPs conduct health assessments, perform diagnostic evaluations, and manage treatment plans for patients, including prescribing medications when necessary. This program positions you for leadership in primary care, offering career growth in a high-demand field.
This program features two required Clinical Intensive weekends on Northeastern’s Boston campus. In these sessions, you’ll participate in High Fidelity Simulations, practice advanced skills with professional patients, and receive individualized instruction from faculty. These immersive experiences allow you to refine your clinical abilities while preparing for the rigors of family nurse practitioner practice.

Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited USA program
Minimum GPA of 3.0, with grades of ‘B’ or better, is required in all undergraduate clinical courses
Successful completion of a statistics course that includes probability theory and hypothesis testing
Current RN licensure
At least 1 year of active full-time nursing experience with direct patient care
TOEFL or IELTS for applicants who do not hold a degree from a U.S. institution and whose native language is not English
TOEFL – A 1–6 banded score scale will be introduced in January 2026 for the iBT TOEFL test. Please see the below score breakdowns for test takers before and after the updated score scale takes effect on Jan. 21, 2026:
For exams taken before January 21, 2026: We prefer a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 100.
