Northeastern University in Charlotte’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology empowers you to influence society in profound ways—enabling children with autism to communicate effectively, relieving adolescents’ fears of speaking dysfluently in the classroom and helping stroke survivors resume activities in which they had previously participated.

Since 1965, our speech-language pathology program has adhered to the highest professional standards. Our comprehensive program emphasizes teamwork and interdisciplinary approaches to complex service delivery issues. You’ll assist academic and clinical faculty in conducting cutting-edge research and evidence-based practice on campus and at our affiliated world-renowned institutions.

  • Northeastern has an on-campus community speech-language clinic.
  • Students complete four semesters of clinical experience both on and off campus.
  • Following graduation, students are eligible for North Carolina state educator licensure requirements for speech-language pathology, including the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requirements for practicing in public schools. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has not determined that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for practice in any other state. Prospective and current students who are non-North Carolina residents should use the following link, http://www.asha.org/advocacy/state/, which provides information regarding state licensure specific to individual states throughout the United States.

MS in Speech-Language Pathology graduates work in educational and medical settings, research laboratories, and private practices. The academic, clinical, research, and service opportunities within our SLP graduate program allow you to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for a lifetime of professional achievement and social contribution.

  • A TOEFL iBT score of 115 or higher for applicants who do not hold a degree from a U.S. institution and whose native language is not English. An IELTS score of 8.5 or higher can be used in place of TOEFL iBT scores

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0

  • Prerequisite coursework completed before matriculation with a grade of C or higher:

    • Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism

    • Introduction to Audiology

    • Introduction to Speech and Hearing Science

    • Language Development

    • Phonetics

  • Minimum of three of the ASHA prerequisite courses must be completed before matriculation

Some courses and labs have tuition rates that may increase or decrease total tuition. Tuition and fees are subject to revision by the president and Board of Trustees at any time. Select programs at select campuses offer additional scholarships of up to 25% off the listed price for domestic students studying on campus. For students interested in pursuing financial assistance or educational loans, additional educational costs, known as Cost of Attendance (COA) components, can be included in the calculation of aid and loan eligibility. Components may include food, housing, books, course materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, personal expenses, and the cost of obtaining a first professional licensure. Please keep in mind that COA can vary significantly depending on academic program, enrollment intensity, and individual circumstances.

Students who begin their coursework in the MS-SLP program through the Charlotte campus in the Fall 2025 semester are eligible to receive a $40,000 scholarship, which brings the tuition for the two-year program to an average of $38,350 for each academic year. Additional merit-based tuition scholarships, awarded by the program, are not available at this time.
